2nd XI
Captain :
Paul Wood
Joined Club: 2008
Nickname(s): Woody, Fred, Veteran, Richard Fairbrass,Iceman
Bat: Right-Hand Opener
Bowl:retired.......
Field: where i want im captain!
The leader of the C2 Unit who had successful year with Bat and Ball as well as capataining the 2nd XI to the title in an unbeaten season.
Richard Fairbrass wannabe who is currently on tour with his tribute band to Right Said Fred, check out the latest video Stand Up For The Champions on this web site (go to the links page).
Useless tosser as he was only able to call heads or tails correctly about once all season. Took the most number of catches in the club in 2009, however was in competition with himself for drop of the season with his efforts against Rothley, Greenfields, Electricity Sports (sub for the 1s), Newbold...the list goes on and on!
Usually pretty positive as captain only letting the aura of coolness drop when he starts having tantrums and throwing his cap to the ground, happens about twice an over!
Vice Captain :
Russell Sullivan
Joined Club:
Nicknames: Vice, Baby Boy
Bat: R/H Opener/Middle Order
Field: Wicket Keeper
Bowl: Never.
Moans: Frequently
Field: Wicket Keeper
Cindys Baby Boy was once again the 2nd XI leading run scorer in 2009 with over 500 runs at the top of the innings. Another fine season behind the stumps and must be in contention for wicket keeper of the year again.
Taken over from Foxy as team sick note managing to injure himself in almost every game. Got so bad that the 2s started a book on what Russ would pull next, odds ranged from 2-1 for hamstring to 1000-1 for a woman!
Players
Steve Bickle
Joined Club:
Nicknames: Bick, Jonty
Bat: R/H Opener / Lower Order
Bowl: Many moons ago!
Field: Star man wherever he is put!
Just 1 appearance last season for Leicester Citys star stewad in which he proved his commitment by spilling blood for the cause. Club stalwart who is responsible for the majority of the clubs fund raising, bizarrely his family seem to do very well in the 100 club.
Matthew Bills
Joined Club: 1992
Nicknames: Billso, Statto, OMB, The Wall, Sargeant, Chris Griffin
Bat: R/H Number 11 without fail
Bowl: Right Arm Leg Spin (When I bowl!)
Field: Mid off/on - handy for moving sight screens
A mixed season for the Chris Griffin wannabe at times bowled really well, at times bowled like a drain and at times spent entire matches standing at mid off waiting for a bowl as the seamers got whacked all around Melton only to be told it's not a slow bowlers wicket (their slowy got 3 wickets, cheers skip).
Potentially found romance at Rothley after fetching a ball from the adjacent cow field and scaring the entire herd of cows away only for one of them to return and moo at him for the remainder of the match.
Ellis Brown
A promising season for Elvis who made a few appearances for the C2 Unit and always performed admirably. Bowling came on leaps and bounds culminating in his first wicket for the 2s away at Rothley.
Managed to dislocate his knee when standing still whilst playing 5 a side football!
Adam Cooper
A productive season for the Cooperstar with telling contributions with both bat and ball as well as proving himself a safe pair of hands in the field. His exploits on the field earnt him the captains award for 2009. Quite a few highlights during the season key runs away at Greenfields and Mountsorrell as well as wickets against Grace Dieu helping to win matches. However Hero's proudest moment was probably making the young kid cry against Billesdon!
Simon Cooper
Scorer extraordinaire although got to work on his use of different colours. Most scorers change colours for every bowler, Mini Cooper changes coours every over resulting in a multi-coloured paint by numbers effect in the scorebook.
A promising bowler who is capable swinging the ball, a real prospect for the future.
Ben Cox
Somewhat opinionated 1st XI scorer who believes he should be forcing a regular place in the 2nd XI. Developed into a useful medium pace bolwer during the season highlighted by his performances for the mid week team and on presidents day. Should Coxy keep progressing in 2010 could be in contention for a regular place in the C2 Unit but may have to be patient and when he gets a chance make the most of it.
Got the drinking started in spectacular fashion on tour by kicking things off with Tennents Super!!!!
Matt Cox
Joined Club:
Nicknames: Coxy, Fan Club
Bat: R/H Opener
Bowl: Badly
Field: Cover, Wicket Keeper
A strange season for the eldest Cox brother who started it in fine form with runs at Rothley and Loughborough Greenfields. However went on holiday and his form seemed to stay on holiday after he returned. Capable of big scores at 2nd team level and hopefully 2010 will be a better year for Coxy
Has got an ever expanding Fan Club known as The Coxettes (currently 3 members) that come to watch him at every game he plays in.
Charles Elliott
A season that was looking promising at the half way point after some fine (and pacy) bowling performances with the Sunday XI. However the season was cut short by injury when he broke his collar bone fielding on the boundary at Countesthorpe in the 20 over competition, wouldn't have been so bad but he wouldn't even have been playing if Frank hadn't got drunk on Whiskey the night before and was at home with a hangover!
Richard Fairbrother
Easily the most enthusiastic member of the C2 Unit and arguably the most improved cricketer in the entire club. Played some key innings for the 2nd XI throughout the season notably against Shepshed (twice) and away at Melton.
Provided a couple of comedy moments with his run out attempt that went backwards against Croft and flattening the Shepshed wicket keeper when he ran into him and then fell on him!!!
Mark Foxall
Glass hands maintained his reputation for aggressive batting with his hockey type shots again proving productive for the 2s again in 2009. The chat dome was re-named the Mark Foxall pavilion after his 6 that crashed into it and somehow managed to avoid the chavs that had assembled inside.
Will be late for his own funeral and often turns up for games moments before we are due to go out and field and sometimes after we have already started, with his best effort coming at home against Billesdon when Usain had to be sent to fetch him after he had broken down on Queens Road!
Steve Henshaw
Grice firmly established himself at the top of the 2nd Teams batting order with a string of solid performances, most evidently away at Rothley scoring 51 at the other end of Podges assault of 146. Everyone thought he was a nice quiet chap until we went on the curry night since which we haven't been able to shut him up!
Curtis Holloway
Joined Club:
Nicknames: Ollie
Bat: R/H Middle Order
Bowl: Right Arm Leg Spin
Field: Gully
A promising season for Odd Socks who at times starred with the bat and at times with the ball for the C2 Unit. Suffered in the same vein as Billso of not being a seamer and therefore getting nowhere near enough overs, although alongside his partner in spin they made a formidable sight screen moving team!
Gary Kirby
Joined Club: 1992
Nicknames: Kirbo, The Kirbonator, Kirbster, Torchwood
Bat: R/H Lower Order
Bowl: Right Arm Fast Medium.
Field: Cover
A good season for Kirbo picking up his share of wickets with his medium pacers as well as at times starring in the field for the 2nd team. Kirbos finest achievement was without doubt though his performance in the pre match naked off at Mountsorrell when he unveiled a new aerodynamic appearance, much to the disgust of the Skipper.
Neil Measures
Joined Club:
Nickname: None as of yet
Bat: R/H Middle/Lower order
Bowl: Right Arm Medium
Field: Cover
Neil is a very consistent bowler and more than capable with the willow. More appearances this season could cement Neil as a very important member of the 2s. His accurate bowling and aggressive batting will surely be a big asset this year.
Nigel Meredith
Joined Club:1992
Nicknames: KD, Millhouse, Wally (as in Where's Wally?), Park, Sun Jihai, Seol Ki Hyeon, Lee Yung Pyo, Harry Potter, Gok Wan, Liang Wenbo, Cho, Crouching Tiger Hidden Meredith.
Bat: R/H Opener / Middle Order
Bowl: You must be joking!
Field: Cover / Mid-wicket / Wicket Keeper!!!!!!!
Not the best season for Cosby CC's resident Oriental who suffered more than most from moving between 1st and 2nd XI. Knew exactly where his off stump was all season unfortunately it was usually knocked out of the ground. His average season with the bat was in stark contrast to his catching where he appears to have shed his tag of being club butter fingers by taking some truly remarkable catches.
Won the US PGA in 2009, hosts a show about looking good naked, Flash Gordons nemesis, plays football for Man Utd as well as owning Winleys
David Needham
A welcome return to playing action for Treacle Feet after a few seasons of inactivity. Showed glimpses of the old form and hopefully 2010 will be back to his best after a full winters nets behind him.
Bandit at Pool, Golf and Paintball, told us he couldn't play any of them turned out to be an expert at all 3!!!!
Phil Needham
A remarkable season in 2009 for Big picking up 52 wickets in total and proving to be a real talisman for the 2nd XI. The improvent in Phils bowling over the past 3 season has been phenomenal, surely will be contending for a 1st XI spot in 2010. Deserved winner of 2009 2nd XI Bowling Award, 2nd XI Players Player of the Year and MVP.
Ben Spencer
Dave Thorpe
Joined Club:2006
Nicnames: Thorpey, Thorpedo, Gandhi, Umar
Bat: L/H Top Order
Bowl: Right Arm Medium
Field: Mid Off/On, Wicket Keeper
Thorpey found himself in the 2s for the 2nd half of the 2009 season and proved to be a consistent performer with bat and ball, at times his efforts deserved more reward than they got.
Doesn't like getting out as the Shepshed pavillion and the newly named Dave Thorpe cupboard will testify to after receiving a good whack with Umars bat.
Lewis Todd
Joined Club:
Nickname: Podge, Library
Bat: R/H middle order
Bowl: Right Arm Medium Fast
Field: Yes
A hit and miss season for Podge in 2009, recorded his highest ever score hitting 146 for the 2s at Rothley however not much else followed as he struggled for runs in the 1st XI. If Lewis hits form in 2010 will be a major asset for Cosby Cricket Club.
Another one who spilt blood for the cause in 2009 after trying to catch one with his nose at Enderby in a mid-week match.
Michael Whitehead
Joined club:at bout 11
Nickname(s): Trigger, Ginge, Wincey
Bat: right hand, i would love to high up
Bowl: left-arm medium fast
Field: point
Paul Woods future son in law and club weatherman. Loves a bit of rain as it enables him to tell us what type of clouds we've got and how long the rain will be here. Had a decent season with the ball at times picking up cruial wickets, will be more effective in 2010 when he doesn't have a limit on his overs.
Slightly brighter than Frank (only slightly) who provided a seasons highlight when Billso informed people he was going to Goks sisters 30th birthday party Trig replied "How old's she going to be?"
