Barrow Town II v Cosby Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 06 Jun 2010 at 2.00pm
Cosby Cricket Club Lost by 4wkts

Match report Weather, bloody weather. Why is it cricket is the only outdoor game you cant play in the rain? Golf, bowls, football, rugby - they're all played in the rain in the summer. Anyway, back to the action...............

Under cloudy and damp skies, Cosby were put into bat and then it rained. 2 overs lost before we started didnt help but out strode Podge & Pople. On a superb batting pitch, both started slowly but picked off singles at will (Pople's first 16 runs were all singles!). Podge misread a shortball to be bowled but Dave Thorpe set about the task well and he and Pople were able to maintain a 4 an over start for the first 15 overs. The skipper then got out to a great catch lowdown at backward point for a well made 32, but Steve Wagstaff came in and hit the ball well from the off. Then it rained.........again. Waggy passed 50 but a ball later, having been told we'd be coming off at the end of the over, holed out at midwicket. Immediately it stopped raining! Cameos came and went from Usain, Coxy with Ben Howard & Gus at the crease with 3 overs left. Then it rained........again and harder. Off we came and the final 3 overs of the innings were lost..........crucially.

Chasing a revised total of 160 off 35, Ben Howard started the bowling with a very controlled 7 overs. Meanwhile, after just 2.1 overs Gus had to go off with a back strain. Enter the captain who finished the 5 balls off with a dropped catch at slip, a 4, a dropped catch at the wicket and two dots! Ben Howard snared Birchitt, well held by Podge and trapped Noon in fron LBW. A couple of half chances went to ground, and as a result the Barrow Skipper took full advantage, hitting a brisk 50 off 30 balls before Thorpey got his off stick. Waggy bowled a tidy spell down the slope, snaring a couple but ultimately the loss of 3 overs was crucial as Barrow reached the target with 11 balls left.

So, our run in the cup comes to an end, but the young lads and back up players can be proud of their efforts in the 3 games played. You will have learnt a lot guys from the experience and I cant fault your commitment - well done! So its back to the bread and butter of the league as both teams search to rise the table.
