Match report An inspired spell of bowling from Tom Gregson secures a winning draw against old rivals Market Bosworth.

Match Report: 2nd XI vs Market Bosworth 2 (h).

After winning the toss on another hot day captain Harrop had no hesitation in deciding to have a bat on what was a superb Cosby track. Openers Bickle and Owen got the 2s off to a flying start despite some hostile bowling from the Bosworth bowlers. The pair put on 51 for the first wicket in under 10 overs before bickle got bowled by Davies the elder. Only 6 more runs were added before Owen got caught behind off the younger of the 2 Davies', left the 2s wobbling on 57 for 2.

After cameo innings from Sausage and Dave Thorpe the 2s were 102 for 4 with half the overs remaining. The good news was that star batsman Sanjay Patel and the inform Lewis Todd were at the crease. The pair were looking solid in rebuilding the innings and were playing some attractive shots when Patel became Blewitts 2nd victim thanks to a sharp stumping for 34.

Gregson then came to the crease and continued the rebuilding with Podge. The pair took a liking to the bowling of Tudge and the innings appeared to be gaining momentum. However a rush of blood to the head for Podge against Blewitt caused the breaking of the partnership on 162. Clarke quickly became Blewitts 4th victim for LBW.

Gregson was left batting with number 9 and captain Harrop and as the last recognised batsmen the pair realised they needed to bat for as long as possible. The pair put on 20 before Gregson became the 5th man to get out to Blewitts leg-spin for a 29 ball 31. Irvine came and went in the blink of an eye and left Harrop batting with last man Michael Whitehead. The pair defied the Bosworth bowlers putting on 29 unbroken for the last wicket leaving the 2s with a respectable 218 for 9.

The Bosworth innings got off to a solid start as neither Whitehead or Clarke were able to get the early breakthrough. It eventually arrived in the 11th over when Irvine had the dangerous looking Davies (the elder) excellently gaught by Whitehead on the boundary. Clarke then quickly removed the number 3 leaving the game evenly poised with Bosworth 54 for 2 after 14 overs.

The game then swung in Bosworths direction when Watts and Tudge dug in and began frustrating Cosbys bowlers as well as playing some good shots. The pair had put on 65 before Gregson bowled Watts for a well made 56. A few overs later Gregson also bowled Tudge for 21 leaving the game equally poised with Bosworth on 138 for 4 with 14 overs left.

Bosworth appeared to be in control as Goodwin and Davies took the score upto 170 before Goddwin was well held in the deep by Thorpey off Duncan Clarke. Gregson then picked up Davies and Howard in the same over and the game appeared to be Cosbys for the taking with Bosworth now wobbling on 180 for 7. Coultas and Sikorta all but saved the game however for Bosworth putting on 18 for the 8th wicket when Sikorta became Gregolitherans 5th victim in the last over with the score on 205. The last pair batted out the remaining 4 deliveries for just 3 more runs, leaving the 2s with a hard earned winning draw.

Points: Cosby 16 points, Bosworth 11 points.

Verdict: A well earned draw after Bosworth appeared to be in control. Batting is still looking strong but we are struggling to bowl sides out.
