Cosby Cricket Club 1st XI v Syston Town 2 on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 13:30
Match was Drawn Winning (18pts)

Match report After last weeks opening day disaster, the 1sts were looking to bounce back against Syston Town 2s.

Losing the toss and being inserted wasnt the plan but the desired outcome. Thorpey and Skip opened up but the Corbetts kept it tight before Thorpey was bowled. Bayliss and Skip put on 50 before the skipper was caught behind. That led to the introduction of Steve Wagstaff and it was ste Steves who swung the game to Cosby. A stand of 109 which included shots all around the park turned the innings on its head. Bayliss was finally run out for an excellent 54 whilst Waggy was eventually bowled for a quality 71. A score of 220-230 looked on but a succession of cheap dismissals ensured only a par-score of 208 was achieved as the lower middle order collapsed somewhat, looking for the big shot when 1s and 2s would've got us there. Andy Corneet bowled unchanged and ended with excellent figures of 5-63.

Another hearty tea was consumed and the 1sts went out knowing a better bowling and fielding performance was required. Brett got us off to a great start with a huge swinging delivery account for Khan whilst Ben Spencer was steady enough at the other end. Runs were coming quickly though and in the 10th over, Waggy came on from the car park end and the indomitable Cook at the park end. As the rate slowed, Waggy and Cooky wrestled control back to the 1sts. Gus took a great catch to dismiss the dangerous Smith whilst Baz's stumpings and another Waggy bowled dismissal had half the Syston side out for 108. The game looked up when Doughty hoisted Roger to Bayliss at long on only for the chance to be grassed and it looked like Syston might yet get over the line. It wasnt to be as Waggy got through his defences and the young Syston middle order failed to cope with pressure. When Roger had Andy Corbett bowled for 9, we had 3 overs at the last pair but we couldn't dismiss them. 18 pts from a winning draw reflected our solid performance - still much to improve on but a relief that the previous week's disaster had been put to bed.

MOM:a close call this week and a number of contenders. Bayliss with a brilliant 54 and Roger with an excellent 5-70 turned the game our way but this weeks its Steve Wagstaff. A great knock of 71 and then 3-48 made it a brilliant all-round game.
