Bitteswell v Cosby Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 30 Jun 2012 at 13:30
Cosby Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts (24pts)
Match report
Cosby arrived at Bitteswell to find a damp wicket and wet outfield......unsurprising given the weather this week. Winning the toss, Bitteswell were inserted and Frank and Husnain started proceedings. Frank bowled tightly with runs hard to come by, only extras making a real contribution. Husnain got the breakthrough with Batemen held well in the gully by Coxy and when Dann went the score was 34-2 off 18. Cosby remained in the box seat and when Cooky was introduced, the carnage began. With Waggy bowling dot balls at one end, the inexperienced middle order succumbed to Cookalitheran - 2 wkts in his first over and 5 in all ripped the guts out of the Bitteswell innings. 48-2 became 65-7 and 90-8 before Waggy bowled No. 11 for 98 all out. A delighted skipper went into tea demanding the 24pt victory. Skip and Charlie opened up and after a cautious start, the scoreboard ticked over nicely. Charlie played across one to be bowled (score 36) before Nigel went for 7 (49). When Vice went for 6 (56) there was a sense of a wobble before Tom and Waggy steadied nerves to take it to 70 odd. It was cool as you like Mikey White who delivered the coup de grace, hitting a brisk 20 and the winning runs.
All in all, a brilliant effort against the team in 2nd spot, backed up by the best fielding display I've witnessed as a Cosby captain. MoM today in a low scoring game had to be a bowler but it wasn't Roger..... 12 overs, 8 maidens, 1-11, it had to go to Frank. A brilliant spell which created the pressure which was so crucial in the middle overs.
