Match report
1st XI Fight Hard for Winning Draw at Kirby
MATCH REPORT: Cosby V Kirby Muxloe, Saturday 31st May 2008, at Kirby Muxloe
A fine day, an excellent looking new pavillion, a much improved wicket? 2 out of 3 were obvious, the 3rd meant the toss was possibly a good one to lose!
Captain Hurst lost his 4th toss in a row and was asked to bat on a hot day and a good looking track? Bayliss opened in the absence of Sampson and Todd had his mind elsewhere. The Krby opening attack bowled well with good aggression and early wickets came there way, first Bayliss was bowled, Todd LBW, Odell caught, Henshaw caught, Thorpe caught. It wasn't the best start in the world, but the run rate was good.
Matt Hurst and Michael White steadied the ship putting on 69 for the 6th wicket before Hurst fell for 32 and Wite 43 shortly after. Alex White 18no and Duncan Clarke 6no took the score to 189-7 which given the early loss of wickets, wasnt to bad.
After tea the cosby attack set about the Kirby top order. It wasnt long before both Hurst and A White had registered by removing both openers but at a cost of nearly 5 an over the game was looking like running away from Cosby.
Enter Michael White, 43 with the bat and now in the wickets, he bowled superbly, leaving a 3 wicket hole in the Kirby middle order but no.3 deacon was still there and looking good. Andy Gray bowled with control but couldnt get the breakthrough needed so Big Dunc was asked to limber up!
It was perhaps the turning point of the match as Mr Tamborine Man returned figures of 7-4-9-3 including Deacon who had just passed 50! It was that spell that left Kirby on the brink at 129-8!
But Cosby couldnt finish the job and Kirby finished on
169-8 to earn a draw.
RESULT: Draw
POINTS: Kirby Muxloe (8) Cosby (15)
MOM: Michael White
VERDICT: An excellent result and a pretty good performance. Coming off the back of 2 defeats, a positive result was vital.
