Cosby Cricket Club Won By 7 Wkts (23 points)
Match report
Classy Odell inspires Cosby to Victory
MATCH REPORT: Cosby V Syston Town II, Saturday 7th June 2008, Victory Park, Cosby
With the weather set fair and Cosby looking up and good start was important at Victory Park. It wasn't long before the scenes of jubilation were confirmed as the skipper winning the toss and electing to bowl.
Hurst and Clarke lead the way but were frustrated by a host of chances not going to hand, however, the breakthrough came and the 2nd wicket followed shortly after and Cosby were in control.
The Cosby attack continued to bowl well, keeping the runs to a minimum and creating a number of chances that unfortunately were not taken. The biggest beneficiary of the dropped chances was Sonia Ohdedra, she came in at number 4 and batted very well, playing some nice shots before Andy Gray bowled her for 38.
Michael White again bowled well, picking up 2 wickets and Rob Dawkins finally got his first wickets of the season, picking up 3 for 35 in 9 overs. The Syston innings closed on 151-9 thanks to some aggressive play by Dougherty at the end but Cosby were confident of chasing down the Syston Total.
After Tea Sampson resumed his partnership with Todd but fell cheaply when brilliantly caught at square leg for 8. Lewis fell soon after playing a poor shot for 19 and when Henshaw was bowled by Ohdedra for 10 Cosby were stuttering at 68-3.
The good news was that Rob Odell was in magnificant form, he worked hard early on, got himself in and then dispatched the Syston attack to all corners of the ground. He was well supported by Matt Hurst who finished 21no but it was Odell with an unbeaten 65 that took all the applause as Cosby left the field with a 7 wicket win in the bag.
RESULT: Won by 7 Wkts
POINTS: Cosby (23) Syston (5)
MOM: Rob Odell - showed his class
VERDICT: Excellent performance although we were a little too relaxed in the field at times, Catching must improve if we are to relly progress
