Match report The 2s arrived at Victory Park buoyed by the previous weeks victory at Billesdon and moods were lifted further on the discovery of the new drinks machine in the dressing rooms. With Greenfields reputation of inconsistency the 2nd XI were unsure of what sort of opposition they’d be up against this week.

Captain Sos won yet another toss (only a matter of time before the oppo realise it’s a double headed coin) and again decided that bowling was the order of the day. The decision initially looked questionable as the Loughborough openers defied Whitey and Woody with Parker looking particularly dangerous. After Woody was taken out of the attack after his erratic start and Whitehead came on the run rate began to dip but it wasn’t until Alex removed Parker for 29 with one of his effort slower balls that the breakthrough arrived. Whitehead continued to bowl frugally but could not get the wicket and was replaced by Wood when he had bowled his 7 overs. This brought about the change in fortunes for the 2s bowlers Whitey shot out the other opener with one that shot along the ground and then Woody got in on the act bowling the number 3. From this point on it was all Cosby as Woody picked up 3 further wickets to finish with 4 for 34. Tom Measures got in on the act as well skittling the Loughborough tail to finish with the remarkable figures of 3 for 5. Loughborough had collapsed from a seemingly strong position of 64 for 1 to 94 all out.

Due to bowling Loughborough out so early the 2s had a 10 over session to bat out before tea. Regular openers Meredith and Sullivan with the instructions to see off these 10 overs first and foremost. Unfortunately this didn’t happen as Meredith played across a straight one and got bowled middle stump. Despite this setback the 2s reached tea at 23 for 1. After tea Sullivan went out to the crease with Coxy with the pair determined to see it home. The pair batted sensibly waiting for the bad balls from the Greenfields bowlers and punishing anything loose. The pair took Cosby to the brink of victory with the score on 84 before Russell had an aberration reaching for a wide and only succeeding in lobbing it to point for 28. Coxy and new batsman Rich Fairbrother took the scores up to level and only 1 needed for victory when Coxy got bowled for a well made 39. This brought Grego to the crease who finished the game in style hitting the only ball he faced for 4 and securing another comfortable victory for the 2’s.

Result: Cosby Win

Points: Cosby 24, L’boro Greenfields 1

MOM: All the bowlers bowled well again but this weeks MOM goes to Paul Wood for his match winning spell that shot through Greenfields middle order.

Verdict: Another comfortable victory for the 2s who are on a bit of a roll, will hopefully be able to continue good form next week against old foes Grace Dieu.
