After a week of selection problems (i.e. half of the clubs players being unavailable) both the 1st and 2nd team by hook or by crook managed to get 11 players out, which was a minor miracle in itself the way things were looking on Friday. Due to the availability problems a much depleted 1st Team travelled to YMA and found themselves fielding first. YMA came out swinging and were able to amass 276 for 7 declared off 40 overs. Amidst all the run scoring youngster Sam Francis was able to pick up 4 wickets on what was his 1st team debut. The 1s almost managed to bat out for the draw but were eventually all out for 198 with well made 50s for Dave Reid and "Ian Snowdon".
The last 11 standing (barely in some cases) that was the 2nd team were at home against Whetstone 1st XI and similarly to the first team found themselves in the field and despite a great catch at slip from Duncan Clarke found themselves in a middle of a whirlwind of batting from the Whetstone top order as they raced to 103 for 2 off 14 overs. However the introduction of Gus Hirst (4 for 53) and Matt Bills (2 for 38) turned the game in the 2s favour as Whetstone then collapsed to 126 for 7 after 20 overs. From then on Whetstone started to bat with a bit more sense as they ended up being bowled out for 215 in the 45th over. The 2nd team to be fair never really looked like getting bowled all out in reply (despite losing Moin 1st ball of the innings) and finished on 162 for 5 with Charlie Sampson continuing his good form with 79 and Gus Hirst finishing 40 not out.
With the availability problems the club had this week both teams can be proud of the effort that they put in at the weekend. Thankyou to everyone that turned out and lets make sure we are all available where possible for next weekends fixtures with the 1st team at home to Thorpe Arnold 2s and the 2nd XI away at the lionhearted lads from Leo. Thanks to everyone that helped out or came and supported the teams over the weekend it is much appreciated, we look forward to seeing you again this weekend hopefully you might even see us win.
