It was a mixed weekend for the 1st and 2nd teams with the 1 s picking up a convincing winning draw against local rivals Leicester Teachers and Mossdale whereas the 2nd team lost by 9 wickets away at Egerton Park 2nd XI.
Lets start with the 1st team, batting first they made a slow and steady start reaching 50 for 1 at drinks and 80 for 3 at 30 overs, largely thanks to a patient knock of 37 from Chris Pople. However a high quality 50 from skipper Lewis Todd and a hard hitting 24 from Dave Reid meant they were able to post a competitive total of 185 for 6, which was still felt to be about 30 below par. Early wickets when bowling meant Teachers were always chasing the game as they finished on 134 for 8 with the main damage with the ball done by Simon Suffolk who finished with figures of 4 for 24.
The 2nd team made the trip to Melton to play Egerton Park and the way they played to be honest may well have not bothered. The top order were blown away by an impressive Egerton Park new ball pairing as the 2s slumped to 24 for 6 with only Ming showing any resistance. He found a willing ally in Gavin Young and the pair took the score into the 60's before both perished for 17 trying to push the run rate along with 10 overs to go. Two run outs at the end of the innings meant the 2s were all out for 75 in 43 overs. The 2nd week in a row where they have been out for less than 100. Egerton had no problems knocking off the runs chasing them down for 1 wicket (a smart catch at short cover by the returning George Newitt) in under 15 overs.
Both teams play against University of Leicester Staff next weekend (2s are at home, 1st Team away) and the1s will be looking to add to their recent 3 game unbeaten run whereas the 2s will be looking to get their season back on track after 3 straight defeats.
