Cosby Cricket Club 1st XI v Billesdon on Sat 24 May 2008 at
Cosby Cricket Club Lost by 3 Wkts (8 pts)
Match report
Middle Order Wobbles Continue to Hamper 1st XI
MATCH REPORT: Cosby V Billesdon, Saturday 24th May 2008, Victory Park, Cosby
With the weather set fair, and the wicket looking good, both teams want to bowl?? Billesdon won the toss and elected to do so.
It was a positive start for Cosby with Sampson and Todd again getting the scoreboard moving quickly and another good partnership looked on the cards. Todd fell for 16 with the score at 46 and what followed was a combination of poor batting and some disgusting decisions from the 'league umpire'. Rob Odell got a shocking LBW and Steve Henshaw was caught behind off his Leg!!
Thanks to 50 from Sampson and some sensible batting from Thorpe (29) & Dawkins (24no) Cosby scrapped to 177-9, which was enough to bowl at but not necessarily enough!!
After tea, the Cosby attack set about the Billesdon top order. 3rd Ball, Hurst had Baz Taylor trapped in front but the 'league umpire' didn't agree, it would be fair to say that he 'didn't agree' with much unless it benefitted the Billsdon players!
The Cosby attack continued to work hard with Matt Hurst picking up a couple of wickets. Then Michael White started to bowl well with immeadiate success. 3 wickets down for 100 runs, the match was still in the balance but cosby needed wickets!
Michael white continued to bowl well, taking 3 more to finish with 4-37. Dawkins, Clarke and Cook all tried but to no avail. Hurst picked up another late on but Billesdon reached their target with a few overs to spare. 180-7
RESULT: Lost by 3 wickets
POINTS: Cosby (8) Billesdon (23)
MOM: Michael White, bowled well and gave cosby a chance
VERDICT: 30 runs short and had we had anything go our way we probably would have won but credit to Billesdon, they played well and deserved the win for the way they batted.
