Match report 13 May 2009 : 1st XI hammered by Harborough

MATCH REPORT: Cosby V Market Harborough II, Victory Park, Saturday 2nd May.

Cosby new the visit of harborough would provide a stern test and after the poor result at Dunton on the opening day it was not looking good for the 1s. With the 2 run scorers from Dunton (Odell & Whitehead) were unavailable the skipper elected to bowl after winning the toss.

The game started well enough with Damien & Stumpy and when Hurst removed the always impressive Rayner without score Cosby were looking good. Unfortunately this did not continue as some poor bowling and some slogging accross the line from former Cosby youngster Rishi Tank ensured a long day in the field.

Dawkins, Gray and cookie all toiled and bar the odd wicket it was Harborough who gained the upper hand. In truth it was only Ben Croucher who bowled with any real conviction and deserved better than 1-31. Harborough closed on a significant 251-5 with Tank making 91.

After the Tea interval Cosby went out to chase down a big total but never got anywhere near it. Todd, Sampson & Meredith all fell cheaply leaving Cosby reeling at 20-3. Billy Blue Gloves did put up some resistance but he was not supported as Hurst, Thorpe & Dawkins did little to trouble the scorers.

Bayliss fell for 34 and bar a late rally from Alex White(22)and Cookie (13) Cosby were well beaten as they were bowled out for 114 and had lost by 137 runs.

RESULT: Lost by 137 Runs

POINTS: Cosby (2) Market Harborough II (24)

MOM: Steve Bayliss

VERDICT: Just not good enough. The team lacked Application and Conviction and that must change else a relegation dog fight is enevitable.
