Match report Cookie Sends Ratby into a Spin!!

MATCH REPORT: Ratby Town V Cosby, Sat 26th June 2010

Cosby rolled up at Ratby looking to bounce back from a comprehensive losing draw at the hands of League Leaders Sileby. With Matt Hurst & Charlie Sampson returning to strengthen the batting confidence and morale was high and when Pople lost the toss Cosby were delighted to be asked to bat on the hottest day of the year so far!!

It would be fair to describe the wicket as very poor indeed with low, indifferent bounce but Pople and Hurst set about the task of building the innings and getting Cosby off to a good start. This they did until Pople drove straight to extra cover for 6 and his disappointing recent form continued. Hurst was joined by Sampson and the pair (batting for the 1st time together this season!!) put on 81 for the 3rd wicket when Hurst was unlucky to play on for 44. Sampson followed shortly after for 36 but Cosby were handily placed on 110 for 3.

It was then down to the in form duo of Rob Odell and Daz Brooks to push things along and get Cosby to 200 plus. This they did with great aplomb with some fine stroke play from Odell and some lusty blows from Brooks. Both men eased their way to 50 and took the score beyond 200! Bayliss and Wagstaff both played excellent little cameos in the last 5 overs to ensure Cosby reached a massive total (given the state of the pitch) of 262-6

The tea interval was notable for 2 things, firstly you were only allowed 2 cobs each (an away team in a previous week were not popular with the tea lady!!) and secondly Pople spent the break chatting to Ratby whilst the rest of the squad were in the shade by the Michael Potter Fence!!

Play resumed with Cosby very confident of the 24 points and with Brett Lane steaming in from one end it was only a matter of time! It was however the little fella Alex White who got the break through with an excellent catch off his own bowling.

The skipper rotated his bowlers sensibly and regular wickets fell mainly to the bowling of the old master Roger Cook. Cookie was back to his best on a helpful wicket and bowled with confidence, finishing with 7 for 33!

Waggy and Brett also bowled well to ensure Cosby wrapped up the victory quickly and efficiently with the highlight being an outstanding catch in the deep from Alex White that will live long in the memory!

RESULT: Cosby Win by 141 Runs

POINTS: Ratby (3) Cosby (24)

MOM: No doubt about it, Roger Cook

VERDICT: Very Good all round display from the team with some excellent individual moments to boot. Notable mentions to most of the batsmen and Brett Lane who bowled with pace and aggression but Cookie was the star of the show!!
