Match report 1st XI Get Big Winning Draw at Ibstock
MATCH REPORT: Cosby V Ibstock Town II, Away, Saturday 10th May 2008

Summer had arrived(?)and Cosby had a strong line-up for the trip to Ibstock. The toss was lost but to the skippers amazement Ibstock elected to bowl on a roasting hot day and a belter of a track to boot!

Sampson and Todd got the innings of to an excellent start again with their third consecutive 50+ partnership with Charlie this time looking in ominous form. Lewis fell for 15 and that brought Rob Odell to the crease. Charlie and Rob then continued the pillaging of the ibstock attack and looked in no trouble at all, adding 63 before Sampson smashed one straight to backward point for an excellent 64. The platform was set at 117-2 of 25 overs.

The last 20 overs saw the acceleration as Bayliss (13 off 16), Hurst (27 off 26) and Simon Whitehead (29 off 16) took the total well past 200. It was however the 81 not out of Rob Odell that really showed the way as he demonstrated what an excellent signing he will be for the club. The innings closed on 255-5 and Cosby were bouyant.

The tea interval came and went with Nick Baker eating 4 pieces of pork pie and 3 pieces of cake (and getting abused for Harlequins defeat at Tigers)

The Cosby attack set about the Ibstock batsmen with Hurst and Clarke taking the new ball. The opening burst brought exactly what was required and after 9 overs Ibstock were 26-3. Big Dunc bowled superbly with his spell of 9-4-12-1 and when Alex White replaced Hurst he too got in on the act with an early wicket, leaving Ibstock reeling at 39-4.

Cosby were well on top and it was just a question of whether they could roll ibstock out on the flat wicket. Cook & Gray bowled well in tandem but a wicket a piece ment a draw was looking the most likely outcome.

To their credit Ibstock continued to bat positively looking for as many points as possible, but this aggression gave Cosby a chance. 3 late wickets made the last 2 overs tense but the Ibstock tail held their ground and a big winning draw was Cosby's reward for a good all round performance.
