Dunton Bassett v Cosby Cricket Club Mid-Week XI on Tue 10 Jun 2008 at
Cosby Cricket Club Lost 4 runs
Match report
The mid week side turned up at local rivals dunton bassett looking like starting with only 9 men with Whitey late from work and Coxy having dropped out. Fortunately by the time the game started Whitey had shown up and Macca had been called in. After losing the toss the mid week side were asked to field and got off to a bad start with Stacky proving expensive. Fortunately Cooky was reigning it in at the other end and picked up a couple of wickets as well.
During these early overs Cosby lost star fielder and middle order stalwart Ash Pepper to what looks like a re-occurence of his knee injury. This pretty much summed up the Cosby fielding performance which was fairly abysmal not helped by some wayward bowling at times, Duntons innings closed on 116 for 4 which was in truth about 20 more than they should have got.
Cosby returned to the pavillion to find Ash teating his knee with a towel that had been soaked with cold lemonade(the miracles of modern medicine). Podge and Waggy opened the innings getting Cosby off to a great start putting on 72 before Podge holed out for 26 in the 9th over. Waggy went on to reach his 40 and his enforced retirement was where the reply stuttered. With the new batsmen taking time to get used to the bowling precious balls were wasted. With 2 overs remaining we needed 19 runs with 6 wickets left in hand.
During the penultimate over one of the comedy moments of the season occurred as Irvine played one through mid wicket the young Dunton Fielder could not see the ball due to the low sun. Whilst his team mates were yelling at him that the ball had rolled literally yards by him the unfortunate lad was spinning round like a top trying to find it. During all this commotion Stacky and Baker managed to run a 5 amid much hilarity. With an over remaining 10 was needed and despite Ben and Nicks best efforts the team fell just a touch short finishing on 112.
