Match report Cosby Crumble at Dunton

Match Report: Cosby V Dunton Bassett, Away, Saturday 25th April

The early morning downpour meant a crucial toss was inevitable on the indifferent track that is Dunton Bassett and when the skipper called tails and an ugly head appeared it was going to be a tough start.

Sampson and Todd opened the innings and some excellent bowling from Dunton new boy Barnacle made scoring difficult. The innings as a result started steadily and had moved on to 24 before Todd was trapped in front for 8. Sampson was next to go when the uneven bounce took effect and a looping catch to gully was comfortably taken.

Simon Whitehead and Rob Odell then led the recovery and batted patiently but effectively and put on 95 for the 3rd wicket in the process. With overs running out Whitehead looked to accelerate but chopped on for 36. What followed was a devasting spell from Barnacle (helped by some poor batting) which saw him take 5 wickets for just 16 runs. Add a comical run out of debutant Ben Croucher and the Cosby collapse was complete. All Out for 155!

After the tea interval Cosby took to the field knowing that they needed quick wickets if any positive result was to be possible.

Hurst duly obliged by bowling Horak with his 1st ball but it was to be a false dawn as the Dunton batsmen made light work of the cosby attack.

Croucher got his 1st wicket when he bowled Sercombe for 10 but Dunton Captain Tom Dann smashed his way to 61 before he was caught & bowled by Hurst. Steve Dann continued to edge away on a wicket that was completely different to that of the 1st innings. Barnacle came in to complete the job and Dunton eased to a 7 wicket victory with 16 overs to spare.

In truth Cosby were poor with the ball, except Andy Gray who perhaps deserved more from his spell, not enough in the right areas bowling either to short or too full.

In the field Cosby were sluggish and at times looked dis-interested. Collectively the team must improve and improve quickly. This is a very unforgiving division and attitude can play a big part in determining whether the team fights for promotion or fights a relegation battle!

Result: Lost by 7 wickets

Points: Cosby (5) Dunton (24)

MOM: Rob Odells 62 was the only real highlight

Verdict: Very Poor team performance. We must improve quickly starting with Market Harborough on Saturday
