Cosby Cricket Club 1st XI v Hinckley Amateur on Sat 17 May 2008 at
Cosby Cricket Club Lost by 8 Wkts (2 pts)
Match report
1st XI Put Up Poor Showing and Slump to 1st Defeat!
MATCH REPORT: Cosby V Hinckley Amateurs, Saturday 17th May 2008, Victory Park, Cosby
After a good start to the season Cosby were looking forward to a match between the only two unbeaten records in the division. The weather was unpredictable and the wicket was wet, so the toss was always going to be very significant! Unfortunately for Cosby, the Hinckley skipper called correctly and Cosby were asked to bat!
It was always going to be a struggle and the Hinckley attack hit their straps from the off. Cosby made slow progress and a relative collapse ensued leaving Cosby reeling! Only Sampson (37) offered any proper resistance and although Odell got a poor decision, the Cosby batsmen failed to apply themselves! Only some good batting late on from Michael White (31) saw the total reach 100 and the innings closed on 101-9.
During the tea interval, the cosby side were naturally down beat but they knew that if they could pick up a few early wickets then the target of 102 would seem massive in the difficult conditions.
That said, the Hinckley batsmen came out with a very aggressive approach and the new ball was hit around Victory Park at an alarming rate. Matt Hurst picked up a couple of wickets but in general the Cosby attack were not at their best! A good ball was followed up by a boundary and although the luck was certainly with the Hinckley batsmen, they deserved it for their positive approach. Kendrick completed his 50 and Hinckley won by 8 wkts.
It was a below par performance from Cosby and although the toss had a massive impact on the game, Hinckley deserved their victory.
RESULT: Lost by 8 wkts
POINTS: Cosby (2) Hinckley Amateurs (23)
MOM: Charlie Sampson, the only top order batsmen to apply himself
VERDICT: Not good enough, Cosby came down to earth with a bump and must improve on a dismal display!
